Mahmud Shah II, the last ruler of the Malwa Sultanate, ruled from AH 916 to 937 (1510–1531 CE). Mahmud Shah II, during his reign, issued gold, silver, and copper coins in round and square shapes. Mahmud Shah II issued silver tankas in two shapes: circular and square. He issued square tankas in two varieties based on the arrangement of the legends. This is another type of silver tanka from the Malwa Sultan Mahmud Shah II.

Silver tankas issued by the Malwa Sultan Mahmud Shah II weigh approximately 10.5–11 g. The obverse bears the legend "al-wathiq bi'l-malik al-samad abu'l-fath mahmud shah", and the reverse bears the legend "bin nasir shah al-khalji al-sultan khallada mulkahu", with the Hijri date 926 at the bottom.
